A bench of Justice Ajay Kumar Tripathi issued notices on a petition filed by Rahul’s father Kundan Prasad Singh, seeking a CBI probe into the October 27, 2008, alleged encounter.

Singh’s counsel contended that the Maharashtra government could not provide the forensic report and other documents relating to Rahul’s killing despite repeated requests to the chief minister and Mumbai police commissioner.

Citing media reports Singh said his son was shot at from close range, which was enough to “establish the fact that it was the handiwork of the Mumbai police in the garb of a fake police encounter”.
