Photos: Social distancing, rush for supplies on day one of lockdown

On the first day of the three week national lockdown, announced by Prime Minster Narendra Modi on Tuesday, to curb the spread of the coronavirus saw essential items run scarce as shop shelved were emptied out by hoarders in the panic buying spree after the PM’s announcement and a delay in fresh stock due to curbs and restrictions on cargo movement. Out on the streets across the country, measures such as social distancing by use of marked spots outside shops, announcements by police to ensure adherence to curbs and travellers hit by transport restrictions were major observances.
