Floods in Assam claimed five more lives in Assam on Sunday, taking the total number of deaths to nine. Though the situation improved in Manipur, Tripura, and Mizoram on Sunday, it has worsened in Assam with over 4.48 lakh people have been affected in the deluge across six districts. (PTI)

Two militants were killed in an encounter in Kashmir’s Bandipora forests on Monday, that began four days back and had seen the death of a soldier and two other militants. Army officials said the encounter was going on in Panar forests of the northern district. The killings come a day after Union minister Rajnath Singh revoked the month-long ceasefire during Ramzan. Applicants for Uttar Pradesh Police Constable Recruitment wait in a queue outside their exam centre in Allahabad. The Uttar Pradesh STF has arrested at least 16 people in connection with cheating in the state police constable recruitment examination, an official said. The two-day examination, which began on Monday, is being conducted at 860 centres in 56 districts to fill 41,520 posts. (PTI)
