Photos: 68,898 new Covid-19 cases push India’s tally to over 2.9 million

A single-day spike of nearly 70,000 coronavirus (Covid-19) cases on August 20 has taken India’s tally to above 2.9 million. On August 19, India crossed another milestone as more than eight lakh samples were tested for Covid-19 for the second consecutive day in a row. The health ministry lauded India’s Covid-19 testing capabilities and added that due to a high level of testing, the gap between recovered and active cases have widened. India’s current Covid-19 tally stands at 692,028 active cases with 2,158,946 recoveries and 54,849 deaths.
