Photos: A sweltering June heatwave wrings North, Central and West India dry

As the mercury hovers above 45 degree celcius-mark, just like humans, birds and animals, too, reel under the adverse effects of the intense heat in Delhi. Western, central, and northern parts of the country have been witnessing a surge in temperature for the past few days, making the heatwave conditions severe. However, Delhi may get respite from heatwave due to the rains expected this evening, owing to a cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan and moisture-laden winds from the Arabian sea.

Dry weather prevailed in most parts of Uttar Pradesh on Monday, with state capital Lucknow recording a maximum temperature of 42.8 degree Celsius, four degrees above normal, and a minimum of 29 degrees Celsius. Orai recorded a high of 46.5 degrees Celsius, while both Aligarh and Varanasi recorded maximum temperature of 46.4 degrees Celsius. (PTI)
