WHO has declared aspartame as possibly carcinogenic to humans but added that it is safe to consume the artificial sweetener within the acceptable daily intake of 40 mg/kg body weight. This means that a person with 70kg would need to consume more than 9–14 cans of diet soda per day to exceed the acceptable daily intake. However, given the health risk, it's advised to switch to healthier alternatives. Dr Neeti Sharma, Senior Consultant - Nutrition & Dietetics at Marengo Asia Hospitals Gurugram in an interview with HT Digital suggests 5 aspartame-free drinks that you can consume safely. (Freepik)
