At the recent London Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week and the Paris Fashion Week, for a change, the spotlight hasn't been on the outfits. This time, the most attention-grabbing items have been the accessories. We asked stylists Vinisha Nair and Shruti Makhija to round up the trends. (Text: Shweta Mehta Sen) Bling it on: At the opening show in London, the most attention-grabbing item was a bejewelled prosthetic limb. Later, in Milan, Dolce & Gabbana sent out several embellished headphones that stole the limelight. "It shows that fashion can be for anyone, and that the highest level of customisation is possible. It's also great encouragement to go to a crafts store and walk out with little trinkets to jazz up practically any outfit or accessory you own," says Nair.

Messages and quirky shapes on bags: Not many could stop themselves from lusting after Anya Hindmarch's bags that had traffic- and pedestrian-inspired road signs and messages as inspiration. Makhija adds, "Apart from them, we saw a lot of really cool shapes as well - from Manish Arora's skull bags, Tsumori Chisato's rocket-inspired creation and Christopher Raeburn's shark-shaped tote. From the utility perspective, I loved the mini purses at Emporio Armani as well."

DIY accessories: Be it a necklace fashioned out of a belt, or a hat with self-cut holes, there's a lot you can do to get unique accessories. "I loved a sponge egg holder stuck on a clutch by Mary Katrantzou the most. There's so much you can do at home. Some things require a little skill, but it's nothing YouTube can't teach you," says Nair.

Match much: Etro and Ermanno Scervino illustrate how there's no such thing as going overboard with matching clothes and accessories. Makhija says, "We've seen a lot of monotone looks in the recent past, but they all had solid colours. Prints are trickier to pull off, but not impossible. Stick to matching just two elements of your look, while the rest of the pieces are solids from the same colour family."
