Pookalam: Celebrating Onam with floral rangoli

There's no better way of celebrating Onam, the Malayali festival that commemorates the return of the Vamana avatar of Lord Vishnu and the subsequent return of legendary King Mahabali than with flowers. Come Onam and much of Kerala bursts into a riot of colours as families decorate their homes with floral rangoli called Pookalam. HT presents some stunning Pookalam designs from across India over the years.
