Photos: Cleaning big in Mumbai's narrow lanes

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has begun a special drive to clean up narrow lanes in the Grant Road area of Mumbai. D ward's solid waste management (SWM) department is working to clean up the narrow lanes between two buildings. During this campaign which is estimated to go on till end of December, approximately 1000 house lanes will be cleaned up by the workers. HT photographer Satish Bate visited one of these sites last week.

“As per the policy, BMC has to clean these lanes. We call them House Gullies and there are dedicated house gully cleaners in all parts of the ward.
