Photos: New York hit by one of the worst weather disasters in its history

Emergency crews in New York were scrambling Monday to rescue marooned residents from what authorities called the "blizzard of the century," a relentless storm that has left nearly 50 people dead across the United States. US President Joe Biden issued a federal emergency declaration for the state of New York on the night of December 26, authorizing US government assistance to bolster state and local recovery efforts.
