Lohri is a festival associated directly with the sun, earth and fire. Sun is believed to represent the life element, earth represents food and fire represent health. (PTI)

The festival has also many interesting folk tales associated with it. The most famous of them all is of Dulla Bhatti. Songs praising the valour of Dhulla Bhatti are sung during the celebration.Dulla Bhatti was popular among the poor, akin to Robin Hood, at the time of Mughal king Akbar.
