Chocolate Sunya has 25 cases registered against him in Pune and the surrounding areas. Of the 25 cases, two are for murder, six for attempted murder, seven for robbery, five for house break-ins and theft, and one for theft along with four cases under Arms Act.

“He had a record of cases against him ever since he was a juvenile. The record we have is only since 2009. We are looking into the record of cases against him for the earlier years as well,” said DCP Sardeshpande. Chocolate Sunya was arrested for being in possession of two country-made pistols and four live cartridges. “The pistols were acquired from Madhya Pradesh,” said Sameer Shaikh, assistant police commissioner, crime-1. However, the police are investigating if he had brought the pistols for sale.

New initiative

Under new leadership, the crime branch as well as the police department has undertaken a new initiative to centralise the list of arrested people at the end of every week and analyse their criminal history, according to DCP Sardeshpande. The analysis, he said, will help in chalking a specific course of action.
