Daund iron factory workers suffer severe burns after molten iron falls on them

Seven workers of an iron factory near Daund suffered severe burn injuries after an equipment used for melting iron broke down and fell on them at around 7 am on Wednesday morning. The incident happened at Meenakshi Ferro Ingots Private Limited company located in Bhandgaon village in Daund region of Pune.
Two out of the seven injured workers sustained 90 per cent burn injuries and are undergoing treatment at Vishwaraj hospital located along Solapur road in Loni Kalbhor. Two other workers are also undergoing treatment at Vishwaraj hospital while three others were taken to Saidarshan hospital in the Kedgaon region of Daund, according to Yavat police, who rushed to the spot.
The two workers with over 90 per cent burns were identified as Ramprasad Tathi, 30, with 90 per cent burns and Abujar Kareem Khan, 30, with 95 per cent burns. Santosh Kumar, 29, and Ramesh Pal, 19, sustained 40 per cent burn each. They are all undergoing treatment in Loni Kalbhor.
Santosh Ramprasad Pal, 19, and Lavlesh Ramesh Pal, 18, both residents of Banda village in Chitrakuth district in Uttar Pradesh, sustained 10 per cent burn injuries while Amit Lalchand Paswan, 30, from Mirgunj area of Gopalguunj district in Bihar sustained 50 per cent burn injuries. The three are being treated in Daund.
"The company is into collecting scrap iron and melting it for reproduction. The ladel which was carrying the molten iron from one point to another broke and the molten metal spilled onto the workers standing near it," said assistant police inspector AK Nale of Yavat police station under the Pune rural police jurisdiction.
The Yavat police are in the process of filing a case in the matter against those responsible for the mishap.
