Favourable conditions for advance of southwest monsoon to south Maharashtra in 24 hrs

IMD has also issued a warning of wind speeds from 40-50 kilometres per hour (kmph) to 60 kmph likely along and off Konkan and Goa coasts from June 8 to June 12.

The southwest monsoon advanced into some more parts of the central Arabian Sea, remaining parts of coastal Karnataka, most parts of south interior Karnataka, Goa and some parts of north interior Karnataka on Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) .

IMD also said that conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into parts of south Maharashtra, central Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Goa and Karnataka during the next 24 hours.

Officials from IMD said, "Conditions are likely to become favourable for the advance of the southwest monsoon into most parts of the Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Maharashtra, some parts of south Gujarat region, southern parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal and Sikkim, remaining parts of the northeastern states and most parts of Bay of Bengal from June 9 to June 11.

The officials added that rainfall activity is likely to increase over coastal Karnataka, Goa and south Maharashtra from June 6.

IMD has also issued a warning of wind speeds from 40-50 kilometres per hour (kmph) to 60 kmph likely along and off Konkan and Goa coasts during June 8 to June 12. Fishermen have been warned to not venture over east central Arabian Sea off Konkan and Goa coasts during this time.

According to IMD, in association with the likely strengthening of south west monsoon and likely formation of a low pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, enhanced rainfall activity with heavy to very heavy and isolated extremely heavy rainfall is likely along the west coast from June 8 to June 11.
