School van driver found dead in Kothrud

Upon investigation, the police found that he was the driver of a van meant for local nursery school children. He was driving the school van for the local nursery school for the past year, according to the police.

A school van driver was found dead in Kothrud with his head smashed with a stone on Monday morning. The Kothrud police identified the man as Parashuram Basappa Ghatage based on his driving licence. Ghatage was a resident of Vinayaknagar area of Bagalkot region in Karnataka.

The 30-year-old deceased man worked as a cab driver, according to the police. His body was found in an open field by passers-by, according to senior police inspector Raghunath Phuge of Kothrud police station. Upon investigation, the police found that he was the driver of a van meant for local nursery school children. He was driving the school van for the local nursery school for the past year, according to the police.

"We have identified two suspects in this incident. We are questioning them. His wife told us that he used to drink every night," said senior PI Phuge. However, no arrests were made in the case till Monday evening.

"The incident must have happened late on Sunday night. But the body was discovered only on Monday morning," said a police official from Kothrud police station.

The police suspect that it was a drunken fight which led to his death. His body was sent to Sassoon General Hospital for post-mortem. The post-mortem report did not show any other injury besides the one on his head, according to the police. It also proved that he had been drinking, the police added.

A case under section 302 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at Kothrud police station.
