A fibre optics service provider has levelled allegations of extortion against Shiv Sena leader and former MLA Vinayak Nimhan, who has rejected it outright.

Businessman Rahul Bhaskar Gangote approached Bajirao Mohite, assistant commissioner of police, Deccan division, along with Alankar police station and Chatuhshrungi police station with his complaint. Along with his complaint, he submitted copies of five bills with payments totaling Rs 4.72 lakh as “maintenance charges,” to a firm allegedly owned by the politician’s son.

“I do not know anything in this regard. This is baseless. I will gather information and then talk to you about it,” said Nimhan when contacted for a comment.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Gangote, who runs Evision Teleinfra Private Limited, said, “I do not want to end up like the farmers who are driven to suicide. I was forced to pay extortion money and he also gave a receipt of it with GST included in it.”

He alleged that after he refused demands for payment in September-October, 2017, the fibre cables installed by his company were cut. “My clients and me suffered losses,” he said, adding that he finally agreed to make a payment to stop the harassment.
