The Pune police are on the lookout for a man who allegedly molested a 21-year-old woman on Tuesday.

The incident took place in the afternoon near Aurora Tower hotel on Mahatma Gandhi road. The accused is said to be around 40-50 years old.

According to the police, the victim, a third-year engineering student from a local college, was on her way to meet a friend when her phone ran out of charge. Unable to contact her friend, she requested the accused to give his phone to make a call.

“As he had let her use his phone, he asked for her number. She gave it to him and he extended his hand, to which she took it with an intention of thanking him,” said Chandrakant Bhosale, senior inspector, Lashkar police station.

The man allegedly kissed her hand and proceeded to grab her shoulder. He then pulled her towards him and tried to kiss her on the mouth, according to the victim’s complaint. While she was struggling to get out of his hold, the man also touched her inappropriately.

“We tracked his address, but he does not live there anymore,” said inspector Bhosale.

A case under Sections 354 and 354(a) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused at Lashkar police station.
