According to the health department's team, the cheese was being prepared with low-fat milk under unhygienic conditions.

District health officer Dr Abnash Kumar said the team raided the factory and seized 7.5 quintals of unhealthy paneer, adding a sample of the seized paneer was sent for laboratory test.

“The paneer was to be supplied to Rupnagar, Samrala, Chamkaur Sahib, Khamona and other areas. We will take the next action after getting report of the collected sample,” he said, adding that the seized paneer could be harmful for health.

According to sources, Punjab health minister Surjit Jayani, in a meeting recently held at Chandigarh, had directed the district health departments, especially that of Ludhiana, to take action against those selling adulterated food items.

Meanwhile, the health department also collected nine samples of milk from various places on Thursday. The reports of the collected samples will come in two weeks.
