Despite the court's order to the district police for reinvestigating the case of acid attack on a three-year-old child at Bassi Pathana in 2006, the victim's family is moving from one place to another to seek justice.
Now the family has decided to approach the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, comprising of the district judge, the district magistrate, the police chief and the civil surgeon, to seek justice.
Victim Karan Gupta was three-year-old when he fell prey to the acid attack, allegedly by his neighbour. However, even after nine years of investigation, the police are yet to make single arrest in the case.
Karan's uncle Harish Gupta said nine years ago on September 17, 2006, the boy along with his cousins, was watching television at his home. "At around 8:30 in night, the acid was thrown allegedly from the neighbouring house. Due to that Karan suffered severe injuries on face and other body parts," he said.
Harish added that nine years have passed and the police have failed to arrest even a single person, despite the court's order for reinvestigating the case this February.
Meanwhile, Harish alleged that in 2012 their neighbour, a local BJP leader, admitted to them that he and his supporters were involved in the acid attack. He also alleged irregularities in police investigation because of this BJP leader's political influence.
Harish alleged that despite the court orders for reinvestigation, the police have not initiated any investigation. "If we ask the police for the current status of the case, they don't bother to answer our query," he said.
Karan's father Satish Gupta said from the day of the acid attack, Karan had been undergoing regular treatment. "He has undergone various surgeries. But now even the doctors at PGI, Chandigarh, have refused any further improvement in his condition," he informed.
District police chief Jatinder Singh Khaira said since he was new to this place, he would ask his subordinate officials to check the case details and act in rightful manner.
Harish Gupta files a complaint at Bassi Pathana on 17/09/2006 under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC.
Six years later, the kin claims that their neighbour, a local BJP leader, admitted that he was involved in the acid attack.
On June 25, 2012, the family files a plea to district police chief, alleging that the BJP leader was involved and requested to speed up the investigation.
On February 2, 2015, the district court orders re-investigation in the case.
Now, the family will approach Criminal Injuries Compensation Board to seek justice.
