Amritsar: One dead, seven injured in road accident

A woman identified as Hardeep Kaur (50), a resident of Batala, while as many as seven persons were injured, three of them very seriously, in a collision between two cars-one going from Batala to Amritsar and another moving towards New Amritsar from Amritsar. The accident took place near the bridge at Vallah crossing as both the cars allegedly lost control as stray dogs came in their way and also due to the road rendered slippery due to Monday’s showers.

A woman identified as Hardeep Kaur (50), a resident of Batala, while as many as seven persons were injured, three of them very seriously, in a collision between two cars-one going from Batala to Amritsar and another moving towards New Amritsar from Amritsar. The accident took place near the bridge at Vallah crossing as both the cars allegedly lost control as stray dogs came in their way and also due to the road rendered slippery due to Monday’s showers.

So immense was the collision that nothing remained of the two cars except the badly mangled remains. The seriously injured persons have been identified as Sarabpreet Singh, a resident of Batala, and son of Hardeep Kaur, the deceased, Tript Bal, a resident of SG Enclave and Karan, a resident of Pandori Waraich.

Sarabpreet Singh was in one car with his mother Hardeep Kaur, wife Harinder Kaur and son Pavittar Singh, both of whom have also sustained injuries in the incident, while Tript Bal and Karan were in the other car along with one Kartar Singh, of Green Fields area, also an injured in the case.

Sub Inspector Narinder Kaur, of Mohkampura Police Station, who visited the spot, said that Hardeep Kaur was coming from Batala to Amritsar to meet her daughter, who is married and settled here. “The occupants of the other car were on their way to New Amritsar area. Near the Vallah crossing both lost control and rammed into each other, killing Hardeep Kaur and injuring the others,” she said.

She added that the injured have been admitted to Guru Nanak Hospital for treatment. “Hardeep Kaur’s son Sarabpreet has sustained serious head injuries as have Tript Bal and Karan,” she said. She added that the kin of the deceased and the injured have been contacted. “The matter is being duly investigated,” the SI added.
