City doctor gets best gastroenterologist award

Dr Dinesh Gupta, head of gastroenterology department in Deepak Hospital, was awarded with the Best Gastroenterologist of Punjab award. Health service provider Prime Time conducts an online survey of healthcare services and gives the Global Healthcare Awards.


Dr Gupta told that this award was provided by the Prime Time after doing ground research on different parameters like popularity, success rates, repo among patients and other medical knowledge. Indian Medical Association (IMA) national senior vice-president Dr KK Agarwal and former health secretary SK Nayak presented the award during an event held in New Delhi last month.

“Such awards boost up the morale and give extra strength for the work we are already doing,” Dr Gupta said.

    Jalandhar bank robbery cracked, three held with money, weapon

    Police claimed to have cracked a bank robbery and nabbed three accused out of the four for robbing more than Rs 13 lakh from UCO bank, a week ago. The accused are identified as Vinay Tiwari, Tarun Nahar, Ajaypal and Gurpreet Singh. Three of them are in the police net while Gurpreet Singh is yet to be arrested. Regular raids are being conducted by the police to nab the fourth accused Gurpreet Singh.

    Hero bets big on new bicycle component manufacturing unit

    Aiming to bring down dependence of indigenous bi-cycle manufacturers on imported components, especially from the Chinese markets, premium bicycle component maker Spur Technologies, launched its first manufacturing unit in the state at Dhanansu e-cycle valley here on Thursday. The firm is a subsidiary of Hero Motors Company and the manufacturing at the new unit is set to reduce imports from China for select components used in high-end bicycles.

    Four held with arms, drugs in Punjab’s Ferozepur

    Police arrested two drug pushers and two others involved in anti-social activities in two separate incidents here on Thursday. The accused have been identified as Luvpreet Singh, alias Gharu, of Mohan Ke Uttar and Jatin of Muktsar Utla Vehra. The police have recovered two country-made pistols of 32 bore, three live cartridges (7.65 mm) and one country-made pistol of 12 bore with one live cartridge.

    Punjab CM Mann orders action against institutions withholding degrees of SC students

    Chandigarh Chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday directed that severest of severe action must be taken against educational institutes withholding the degree of SC students on pretext of post-matric scholarship scheme. The chief minister, while chairing a meeting of social justice and empowerment department, told the officials to take action against educational institutions indulging in such tantrums to ruin the future of SC students and ensure that degree of not even a single student is withheld by any educational institute. He said the payment of funds under the scheme is a matter between the state government and the educational institutions and students from the underprivileged and weaker sections of society have nothing to do with this.
