To pin down the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on the Justice Ranjit Singh (retd) Commission report on sacrilege incidents of Guru Granth Sahib and police firing at protesters in Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan, the Captain Amarinder Singh government may go for live telecast of the debate.

The report will be tabled in Punjab assembly session on Monday.

The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) headed by chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh in its meeting on Thursday decided to go on an offensive against the Akalis by fielding its firebrand leaders.

Congress minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and several MLAs have requested the CM as well as assembly speaker Rana KP Singh to allow live telecast.

The Congress floor managers believe the Akalis may boycott the debate or stage a walkout. “Whether or not they participate in the debate, how the Akalis used the highest temporal body of Sikhs, the Akal Takht, and how they played politics over sacrilege incidents should be exposed. It was our poll promise,” Randhawa said on why he sought the live telecast.

Speaker Rana KP said the matter is under discussion and a final call on it will be taken on Monday.
