Food business operators to pay for serving substandard items

The court also directed the owners to serve healthy food and make improvements in preparing and serving food.

The owner of Rawat Ice Cream, Model Town, was fined Rs 50,000 for serving substandard ice-cream to customers. A sample of ice-cream was collected last year following a complaint by a city resident.

The court also fined Major Singh of Machhiwara Rs 50,000 for selling substandard milk powder. Besides, the owner of Rameshwar Patisa Factory, Tajpur road, Bhamian, was fined Rs 30,000 for selling substandard Patisa. Three worms were found in the Patisa during a food sampling raid.

In another case, Gupta fined Rs 30,000 to Anil Kumar, owner of Anil Patisa Factory, Bhamian. A 4cm plastic thread was found in a sample collected from his factory.
