According to officials, eight boys, all aged between 13 and 16, arrived at a canal at Barre Kee village around 2 pm on their bikes. Four of them jumped into the canal.

“They didn’t know how to swim and were swept away by the strong current. Later, their bodies were recovered and sent for autopsy,” said Ferozepur deputy commissioner DPS Kharbanda, who along with senior superintendent of police Manminder Singh, rushed to the spot.
The deceased were identified as Bablu, Honey, Prince and Love, all natives of Shanti Nagar.
Police said the boys had initially planned to take a swim in the Sutlej near Hussainiwala. However, they changed their mind and went to the Barre Kee village canal.
“We will prepare a case for compensation to the families of the deceased,” said the DC.
