The state government has cancelled singer Gurdas Maan’s performance during the state-level function being organised to mark the 350th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh on December 24 in the city. The decision came after the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) urged the government to follow Maryada (tradition) during the function.

In the letter, the jathedar had noted that there should be gurbani, kirtan and ‘katha’ instead of  performance by singers during the function.

The function is being held at the SGPC ground near Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, after it had granted permission to the government. Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh are among the dignitaries who will attend the function.

Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib acting Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh and manager Ranjit Singh have written to Anandpur Sahib SDM to follow maryada during the function. In the letter, the jathedar had noted that there should be gurbani, kirtan and ‘katha’ instead of  performance by singers during the function. It is not clear whether there would be ‘Parkash’ of Guru Granth Sahib during the function.
