Holy book sacrilege: Protestors block national highway near Phagwara

Vehicular movement remained suspended on the National Highway 1 on Saturday morning after hundreds of Sikh protesters blocked the road near Sugar mill chowk to mark the protest against desecration of the holy Guru Granth Sahib’ in Bargari village of Faridkot on October 12.

The Sikh protesters were demanding arrest and stringent action against those involved in act. The traffic had to be diverted to other routes due to the protests.

While addressing the protest, a protestor said that the Supreme Court has given an honour of Living Guru to the holy book ‘Shri Guru Granth Sahib ji’ and strict action should be taken against those guilty.

“The accused should be booked under sections 302 and 295A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC),” he demanded.

Meanwhile, the police team has been on its toes control the situation.

The protest was still on till filing of this report.
