Intoxicating syrups, tablets seized; one arrested

The local police claimed to have arrested a smuggler from the Punjab-Haryana border near Rajpura on Monday. The suspect has been identified as Parveen Kumar, a resident of Maluat in Muktsar district.

The local police claimed to have arrested a smuggler from the Punjab-Haryana border near Rajpura on Monday. The suspect has been identified as Parveen Kumar, a resident of Maluat in Muktsar district.

The police claimed to have seized around 32,100 habit-forming capsules and tablets and 235 intoxicating syrups.

Senior Superintendent of police Hardial Singh Mann said the Shambu police laid a check post on the Rajpura-Ambala road and apprehended the accused.

During preliminary investigation, it came to light that Parveen Kumar originally belonged to Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh and had been working in a private clinic in Malaut for past two years.

Mann said the suspect confessed that he started smuggling intoxicating drugs and medicines from Saharanpur to various part of Punjab.
