LPU student jumps off university building in Phagwara, dies

A 23-year-old student of Lovely Professional University (LPU) at Phagwara in Kapurthala district committed suicide by jumping off the fourth floor of a building on the campus around 9 am on Monday. In a suicide note, victim Rahul Pushola of Haridwar, has not blamed anyone but his poor academic performance, police said.

His parents were informed and the body would be handed over to them after post-mortem examination at the local civil hospital, said Baljinder Singh, in-charge of the police post of Chaheru village right opposite the campus.

Pushola, a first semester student of Bachelor of Pharmacy, fell when there were other students were around, and was found dead in a pool of blood by the police who were called by the university authorities.

He apologised to his parents, advised his younger brother to take care of them and told him to not “follow the mistakes” that he had made. Police said he resided in a rented accommodation near the campus.

“He was stressed by his studies,” said superintendent of police (SP) Parminder Singh. Inquest proceedings were initiated.
