An 82-year-old woman in a village here has locked the body of her grandson in a wooden box and is refusing to cremate him until his alleged killers are put behind bars.

Gurdayal Kaur of Hathur village, 25 km from Jagraon, grandmother of Gurpreet Singh, 26, has also threatened to hold a dharna along with the body outside the police station if the cops fail to act in the case.

Gurpreet’s father Jasveer Singh had complained to police that his son had left the house to go to an immigration centre in Chandigarh on December 30. When he failed to return, the family lodged a missing report at the Hathur police station.

During investigation, police found that Gurpreet had befriended a Jalandhar girl on Facebook. The girl’s brother Lovedish Singh got upset when came to know about their relationship. Also, it is alleged that Gurpreet had some objectionable pictures of the girl. It further angered Lovedish, who then hatched a plan along with his aide Jatinder Gill to eliminate Gurpreet, said police.

Division Number 5 station house officer Inspector Jatinder Singh said Gurpreet’s call details revealed that he had talked to Lovedish. The probe further revealed that Lovedish and Jatinder had kidnapped Gurpreet and after murdering him had dumped his body in Jagraon.
