Naib tehsildar among three arrested for fraud

The police have arrested a naib tehsildar, Inderjit Singh Dhanoa, sales clerk at Shahkot tehsil office, Angrej Singh, and Harwinderr Singh, a resident of Miani village for allegedly preparing 31 bogus conveyance deeds of government land.

Deputy commissioner Shruti Singh had lodged a complaint against the trio with the SSP. Dhanoa was posted at the Lohian Khas sub-tehsil, when the crime was committed, and is now posted at the Lopoke sub-tehsil in Amritsar.

In these 31 false deeds, government officials have illegally been made owners of valuable government land, causing tremendous loss the exchequer. SHO Manjit Singh said that a case under sections 13(1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, Sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant), 420 (cheating) and 465, 467, 468 and 471 (fraud) and 477-A ( falsification of accounts) of the IPC had been registered against the accused and the inquiry had been handed over to the Shahkot DSP.

The accused were produced in a Nakodar court, which has remanded him to police custody till June 11.
