The district administration of Patiala on Wednesday launched a cradle (Pangoora) scheme for those new born babies, whose parents are unable to bear the burden rearing a child.
After Amritsar and Bathinda, Patiala has become the third district of Punjab, which has launched the cradle (Pangoora) which aims also to foster children who are getting treated well due to parents' ignorance.
Deputy commissioner Varun Roojam said that under the scheme the district administration will foster these children.
He also appealed to the parents, who cannot feed their new born babies due any reason, to drop their children in a pangoora (cradle) instead of killing or dumping them in a dustbin. He also informed that these children will be handed over to parents desirous of adopting a child with due legal procedure.
Roojam said that the prime objective of the cradle is to stop incidences of killing of the girl child.
Bal Krishan Singla, president of Yadvindra Puran Bal Niketan appreciated the intiative and said that presently Bal Niketan has been fostering 45 children by providing them a homely environment.
