However, he was caught, and following his statement, the police recovered the victim's body from the nullah on Tuesday.

The deceased, Sharda, was a resident of Kundanpuri area. Her father, Ram Kumar, runs an embroidery workshop where the accused, who is also a distant relative of Ram's, used to work.

Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) city-1 Amrik Singh Powar said Videshi and Ram had monetary issues and the latter had recently humiliated Videshi. Therefore, to avenge his humiliation, Videshi hatched a conspiracy to kill Ram's daughter, the ADCP added.
"The accused lured Sharda with Holi colours and took her to his rented accommodation in Hargobind Nagar on Monday evening. There the accused stabbed her throat with a pair of scissors, killing her on the spot," Powar said.

The accused then took the body and dumped it in Buddha Nullah, and in the attempt also fell in the nullah. Thereafter, he returned home.

"Meanwhile, realising that his daughter was missing, Ram reached Videshi's room to enquire about her. It was then that the accused, who was under the influence of liquor, confessed to have killed Sharda and dumped her body. Thereafter, Ram sounded the police," the ADCP said.

He added that on getting the information, taking swift action, the police arrested the accused and recovered the scissors from his possession. Following his statement, the police recovered the victim's body from the nullah.

Inspector Ram Pal of Division Number 4 police, said as the victim could have been raped before being murdered, the body had been sent for medical examination to civil hospital.

The accused, who is married and has a son, has been booked under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Police would add sections of rape in the FIR if the medical examination proves rape.
