Members of the Rehri Phari Federation staged protest outside municipal corporation's (MC) Zone-D office on Wednesday. Vendors were demanding setting up of vending zones in all wards at the earliest, so that they could run their businesses.
They also alleged that the MC teams were seizing their carts from various areas without arranging space for them at vending zones for which surveys were being conducted.
Federation president Tiger Singh said, “We met MC Zone-D commissioner PS Ghuman, who assured us to look into the matter. We requested him not to seize our articles and carts during the drives, as our families depend upon our daily earnings.”
“We will also meet MC commissioner next week, as we wanted redressal of our problems at the earliest. The MC should follow the Supreme Court's directions regarding formation of vending zones,” Singh said.
Meanwhile, the vendors also blocked the entrance to Zone-D office, and raised slogans against the MC authorities.
