The scheme covers only the registered labourers' children from Classes 9 to 12, who have also been awarded scholarships from the board, Sidhu said. It is a one-time benefit and can be availed only once throughout the four years of study.

Sidhu said the process of becoming a beneficiary of this scheme had been simplified and did not involve getting approval from sub-divisional magistrate or deputy commissioner but just from the assistant labour commissioner.
