Dhanush’s first look in Vada Chennai had initially intrigued the audience.

It’s been a good year for Dhanush, who struck gold with his directorial debut Pa Paandi. The film not only impressed the audiences, but at the same time earned the praise of critics and did well at the box-office too. He followed it up with not so impressive VIP 2, a sequel to his 2014 blockbuster VIP. The film did decent business irrespective of mixed reports. He also completed shooting for his maiden Hollywood project, The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir, in which he plays a street magician.

Dhanush is currently back on the sets of Vada Chennai, which marks his third collaboration with National award-winning filmmaker Vetrimaaran. The shoot of the film is underway in Ennore in Chennai and it is believed that the team is working round the clock to wrap up the project as soon as possible. This will be a trilogy which will chronicle 30 years in the life of a gangster. Dhanush is expected to wrap up his portion in the film by this end of this month. Once his work is completed in Vada Chennai, he will start to work on Balaji Mohan’s Maari 2, which he will also be bankrolling.

In Maari 2, Dhanush will return as the local mustache-twirling, dhoti-clad rowdy. He is paired opposite Fidaa star Sai Pallavi this time and will lock horns with Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas. On Friday, it was announced that actor Krishna joins the cast as the second lead and he will be seen in a pivotal role. The principal shooting is expected to start from November or latest by December.
