Just about any movie that releases today is 3D. Name any film, and it's in 3D -- Furious 7, Avengers, Jurassic World and our very own ABCD 2.

But Baahubali director SS Rajamouli is not a fan of this innovative technology. At a recent media interaction at the launch of a song from his upcoming film, the director explained why this was the case.

"I'm not a big fan of the 3D format. Baahubali is all about scale. 3D gives you scale but reduces the depth. I want my characters and visuals to be big and that's why I've shot in the 16:9 format," Rajamouli told the media on Thursday at an event to launch another song of his film.

"In some theatres which have bigger screens, you'll be able to see a bigger picture than the normal cinemascope formats," he said.

None of the director's earlier films was in 3D, though there was a lot of buzz about Eega's dubbed version Makkhi being released in 3D.

Baahubali starring Prabhas Raju, Tamannaah Bhatia, Anushka Shetty and Rana Daggubatti among others is all set to release on July 10.
