The second promo of Mersal, Vijay’s upcoming film, was released on Sunday, right after the makers confirmed that the movie will release on time for Diwali. The promo is a fun hodge-podge of romantic moments between lead actors Vijay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Kajal Aggarwal. The shots looks great, the background score is sweet and there is fresh anticipation in the air, which is common in the beginning of any romance. While the first promo was power-packed and was probably more integral to the plot of the film, the second is like the fluff piece that exists in every film only to ease the audience slowly towards the crux of the plot.
Both Samantha and Kajal Aggarwal look gorgeous. While Sam’s character seems to be aggressive and straight-forward, Kajal’s character looks like she is going to play the girl-next-door. The two are paired opposite two characters (of three) played by Vijay - the doctor and the magician. But wait, does the film really have Vijay playing three different people? Wouldn’t it be interesting if the son was both a magician and a doctor? Well, from the teaser and the promo, audiences have drawn their own conclusions and have been debating which plot point would be more appropriate.
Director Atlee seems to have found a way to keep Vijay’s fans guessing, and interestingly, avoided major plot leaks. With just two weeks left before the film’s release, it looks like the filmmakers are doing everything they can to increase the audience’s awareness of Mersal.
With all that is happening, the positive attitude of the producers - Thenandal Studios - is a welcome surprise. It does look like the rise in ticket prices or the double taxation row is not going to dampen their spirits.
