My son is everything I am not: Nana Patekar
Nana’s son Malhar is preparing to enter the industry as an actor and producer
Senior actor Nana Patekar is known for his witty humour and blunt statements. He hates mincing his words and calls a spade a spade. During this interview, he gave us a glimpse of his witty side clubbed with visible irritation regarding caste-based issues in the country. The Natsamrat (2016) actor says, “There is a difference between being straightforward and careless. We live in a society, where you may not like everything that is happening around you. However, just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it is wrong. Similarly, just because you dislike something, you don’t have to keep talking about it or instigating people against it. We need to learn to sort our own differences before worrying about the world’s problems.”
The National Award winning actor is visibly upset about the rigidity in the attitude of people of today’s generation. “I don’t remember a single day when I was asked my caste or fans showering me with love because I belong to a particular community. I was and I am an actor, and similarly everyone else is an individual. We should judge by talent and work not by community or caste,” says the actor, who will be next seen in Prakash Raj’s Tadka.
Moving on to a lighter subject, the actor admits that he lives his character entirely during the shooting schedule of the film. “I do take my characters back home. In fact, I am the reel person in real life during the entire shoot. This affects me and my family, because I tend to be eccentric or irritable during these times.”
His film Aapla Manus is based on Paresh Rawal’s play Dear Father. Ask him about his real-life father role, and his eyes light up. “Malhar is everything that I am not. He is an amazing singer and a dancer, he writes so well and above all, his has learned film-making and camera techniques. So, he has the best of both worlds, theory and practical.”
