Vidya Balan has confirmed that she will be playing the role of actor-politician Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao’s first wife Basavatarakam in his upcoming biopic, which will be directed by Krish Jagarlamudi. The film will see Nandamuri Balakrishna play the role of his father, former Andhra Pradesh chief minister NT Rama Rao. In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, the actor revealed, “Their storyline and screenplay were in place, but work is in progress yet. I still don’t know what it is about this film that interested me. Let’s say it was an instinctive decision.”
The National Award-winning actor will play a pivotal part in the film. Speaking about this, the actor said, “It’s a biopic on NTR and while Basavatarakam is not NTR, she is extremely integral to his story and that’s why I’m doing this film. I’m looking forward to the experience.”
She also explained that it has been a challenge to prep for her role as not much is known about NTR’s first wife. “People knew of her but they didn’t know her and that is interesting for me as an actor,” she said.
This will be Vidya Balan’s first film in Telugu. When asked if she has watched NTR’s movies before, the actor said, “I remember visiting my mama and mami in Hyderabad when I was very young, and I think that’s when I heard the name NTR for the first time. Over time, I realised what a phenomenon he was.”
