Director BR Ishara’s 1972 film, Ek Nazar, featured actor Tejaswini Pandit’s mother, Jyoti Chandekar, playing the role of Amitabh Bachchan’s step-mother. As a big fan of the veteran actor, Tejaswini had always wanted to show him a clip of the film, so when she recently met Big B, she jumped on the chance. Tejaswini shares, “He politely said that he doesn’t remember the film, but was pretty happy to see the clip. He conveyed his regards to my mom, and asked me to pass them on.”
Tejaswini says that she was quite nervous to walk up to Bachchan and show him the clip. “I know how uncomfortable and irritating it gets for celebrities when someone is trying to get too close. I did not want to push myself onto him, so I first asked him if it would be okay to share something. He obliged and watched the clip from the film. He had a smile while watching it, and I was thrilled,” she says.
The Deva actor says she also wanted to show Bachchan the clip because her parents are huge fans of the actor as well. “My dad walked barefoot to the Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai during Big B’s Coolie (1983) incident and had even offered a gold durva (ceremonial offering). We could barely afford it, but he did it because of his undying love for the actor. Today, my dad is not with us, but I am sure he must be smiling wherever he is.”
