Paddler Sathiyan wins Belgium Open crown
NEW DELHI: Sathiyan Gnanasekaran has become only the second Indian table tennis player after Achanta Sharath Kamal in 2012 to win an ITTF event as he clinched the men’s singles title of the Belgium Open. Sathiyan won his first pro title by defeating local player Nuytinck Cedric 4-0 in the final 15-13, 11-6, 11-2, 17-15 at De Haan in Belgium.

RANCHI: Three national records were smashed on the third day of 70th Senior National Aquatic Championships here. Olympian Shivani Kataria broke the 200m women’s freestyle record in 2:06.97. Karnataka’s Arvind Mani broke the 200m men’s backstroke mark in 2:05.46. Olympian Sajan Prakash reset yet another record in men’s 100m butterfly in 54.43.
RELEGATED AIZAWL FC REINSTATED IN I-LEAGUE
NEW DELHI: Last season’s debutants Aizawl FC, who were relegated after finishing eighth in the standings, were reinstated in the I-League by the AIFF for displaying impressive football. The new I-League season kicks off on Jan 7, 2017.
