NEW DELHI: Indian men’s hockey team slipped one place to occupy sixth in the FIH World Rankings after their lacklustre show in the Rio Olympics while their female counterparts surprisingly gained one position to be at 12th in the latest charts released on Tuesday.

The Indian men’s side crashed out of the Olympics in the quarterfinals by losing to eventual runners-up Belgium 1-3 while the women’s team had failed to get past the group stage.

INDIA TO PARTICIPATE IN FOOTVOLLEY TOURNEY

MUMBAI: The Footvolley Association of India has recently announced names of two Maharashtra players, Cajetan Dias and Kundan Chandra, who will be representing India at the Rio 2016 Footvolley World Tournament.

The tournament will be held from August 24 to 28 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Rio event is a demo game conducted under observation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

COSTANTINI RETURNS TO REVIVE INDIAN TT

NEW DELHI: Post the Rio Olympics debacle, the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) is hoping for a turnaround with the return of Italian Massimo Costantini, who takes charge as chief coach of the national team from next month.

It was for the first time that four players qualified for the Olympics but all of them came a cropper after losing on the opening day of their competition.
