Mohun Bagan stay fourth with 25 points from 16 matches, six more than JCT who are at ninth.

At the Guru Nanak Stadium here, Barreto also had the misfortune of a fierce free-kick that beat the JCT goalkeeper Karanjit Singh but was saved by Jaswinder Singh, who had earlier replaced striker Baljeet Singh in the 70th minute.

In the first half, Mohun Bagan’s Brazilian medio Marcos Perriera had also missed a free-kick. Two minutes from half-time, Edeh Chidi went over. And on the hour-mark, Barreto saw his penalty being saved by the keeper. He had also missed from the spot against East Bengal in the Federation Cup semi on December 31 last year.

One minute later, Bagan goalkeeper and skipper Sangram Mukherjee foiled Baljeet. In the 73rd minute, Balwant Singh came close but was again denied by Sangram. Mohun Bagan’s last chance came in the 90th minute when Perreira failed to control the ball and drove over. Bagan’s Rakesh Masih and Ishfaq Ahmed were shown yellow cards.
