English Premier League struggler West Ham has completed a second signing in the January transfer window by recruiting Gary O'Neil from second-tier side Middlesbrough. The 27-year-old midfielder joins West Ham for an undisclosed fee after signing a 2-year deal with the club he played academy football for as a teenager.

O'Neil is available to play in the second leg of the team's League Cup semifinal against Birmingham on Wednesday. The Hammers' attempts to stave off relegation has seen them sign England left back Wayne Bridge, while Hoffenheim striker Demba Ba claimed on Monday he is moving to Upton Park on loan for the rest of the season.

Avram Grant's side is bottom of England's top division with nearly two-thirds of the season gone.
