WhatsApp is reportedly developing a feature that will allow users to send an audio message that the receiver would be able to play only once. This is according to WhatsApp news tracker WABetaInfo, which further said the update would increase the privacy and security of communication through the Meta-owned platform.

As seen in the screenshot above, a person will have to press the ‘Audio’ button to use this option. As per WABetaInfo, however, such audio messages would not be saved, forwarded, or recorded, and this would be for additional privacy. This is a characteristic of view once images and videos as well.

How does it ensure extra privacy

As the audio would be played only once, this reduces the risk of someone else being able to access it, or listen to it later.

Availability

This ability is currently under development and will be released in a future update of the app. As is the case with any new feature, however, this, too, will first be beta tested with a small group of users and wider public launch will take place only after the beta-testing.
