Zuckerberg launches new WhatsApp for desktop, boosts call features. Details

Mark Zuckerberg's WhatsApp unveiled a new Windows client on Thursday with improved performance, better calling features, and an interface identical to the mobile version. Desktop users can now hold group video calls with up to eight people and audio calls with up to 32 people in the new version.
“Today, we’re introducing a new WhatsApp app for Windows that loads faster and is built with an interface similar to the mobile version of the app,” a statement from the social media parent Meta read.

Announcing the launch, Mark Zuckerberg wrote in his Instagram broadcast channel that with the new WhatsApp desktop app for Windows, users can place end-to-end encrypted group video calls with up to eight people and audio calls with up to 32 people, extending the limit to that of mobile app. Meta also said that it will increase these limits further.
According to Meta, the WhatsApp upgrade will include new features such as link previews and stickers, as well as faster device linking and improved syncing across devices.
WhatsApp has focused on bettering the experience on large screens since announcing the ability to use one account across multiple devices.
The launch comes in the backdrop of recently introduced WhatsApp beta version for Android tablets and for Mac desktops.
“We look forward to bringing WhatsApp to even more devices in the future,” the statement added.
