NGT stops activity in 436 acres in Bhubaneswar for lack of forest clearance

The NGT order came in response to a petition filed by Bhubaneswar-based activist Subash Mohapatra in 2019 challenging the inaction of the Odisha government in checking the illegal and unauthorized use of 568 acres of revenue forest land in the city for non-forestry purpose.

The National Green Tribunal said that no further activity shall be taken up in 436 acres in forest land in Bhubaneswar without first complying with the requirement of law.(HT PHOTO)

Delhi’s Environment Committee summons MCD Commissioners over air pollution

In the meeting that was held in view of the rising air pollution highlighted that road dust has been a major component of air pollution in Delhi. It was found that officials were not fully aware of NGT orders.

Kalkaji MLA Atishi who heads the House Panel said that it was “very shocking” that the MCD commissioners of Delhi have no clue regarding the length of roads under their jurisdiction.(ANI)

NGT extends term of oversight committee to monitor pollution of Ganga

A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said that unless the UP government sets up any other effective alternative mechanism, it may not be advisable to close the committee abruptly.

NGT directs Power, Coal ministries to undertake safety audit of thermal power stations

“We also direct the Secretaries, ministries of Power and Coal, Government of India, in coordination with such other Departments/Institutions as may be necessary, to undertake safety audit of similarly placed thermal power stations, throughout the country expeditiously, preferably within six months, to avoid recurrence of such incidents in future,” the NGT said.

NGT directs Centre, states to install ‘Bird Diverters’ on existing solar and wind powerlines

A bench of the NGT, headed by its chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel issued several directions on Wednesday while disposing of a petition on an NGO, Centre for Wildlife and Environmental Litigation through Bhanu Bansal who stated that there is an urgent need to protect and conserve the great Indian bustard as the same is on the verge of extinction.
