On quantitative sensory tests, there were no differences in thermal and pain detection thresholds between the autistic and non-autistic groups. This indicates normal pain and thermal thresholds, suggesting "normal functioning of the peripheral nervous system" among participants with autism.

Gene that controls early social behaviour may help to understand Autism: Study

The work also suggests that exposure to certain drugs and environmental risk factors during embryonic development can cause changes to this gene, leading to alterations in social behavior that are similar to those found in individuals who have autism.

Bengaluru woman charged with murder for throwing her child off apartment

Balakrishna, the deceased child, was suffering from Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and as a result it had affected her speech and mental development. The accused said the child had to be taken for autism therapy regularly and this had affected her quality of life, according to the charge sheet.

In the charge sheet, the police officials also recorded the statement of 34 witnesses, including three eyewitnesses. (HT Archives)
