Rajpura thermal plant unit flooded, shut down in Punjab

Incessant rain and heavy water flow from the Sutlej and Ghaggar rivers have led to flooding in low-lying areas of Rupnagar and Patiala in Punjab, causing damage to property and infrastructure. The Indian Army and NDRF have been called in for rescue operations. The defunct portion of the Sutlej Yamuna Link canal is also causing heavy spillage in Rajpura area. Several villages have been flooded, leading to crop loss for farmers. Rivulets, including Ghaggar and Badi Nadi, are flowing above danger mark, raising concerns of further flooding.

Flood fury: Punjab in deep waters, army steps in for rescue ops

15 NDRF and 2 SDRF teams along with 12 army columns have been deployed in Punjab to carry out rescue operations in the worst affected districts due to heavy rains. Schools have been ordered to be closed till July 13, and land near rivers and canals have been inundated. Power and water supply have been affected, and authorities are working to bring affected people to safety.
