OpenAI recently launched ChatGPT’s successor GPT-4. Since its release, social media is flooded with posts about the AI chatbot. In a recent tweet, a man claimed how it helped save his dog’s life by diagnosing a problem. The Twitter thread explaining the interaction between the chatbot and the man about the dog has gone viral. It has also prompted people to share various reactions.

“#GPT4 saved my dog's life. After my dog got diagnosed with a tick-borne disease, the vet started her on the proper treatment, and despite a serious anemia, her condition seemed to be improving relatively well. After a few days however, things took a turn for the worse,” Twitter user Cooper wrote.

In the next few tweets he explained how the first vet he consulted failed to properly diagnose his dog and the pooch’s health kept getting “worse and worse”. And when the doctor failed to pinpoint the problem, the pet dad decided to try out GPT-4 in an attempt to find a solution.

“In the meantime, it occurred to me that medical diagnostics seemed like the sort of thing GPT4 could potentially be really good at, so I described the situation in great detail. I gave it the actual transcribed blood test results from multiple days, and asked for a diagnosis,” he tweeted.

In the next few tweets, Cooper added that the AI chatbot suggested the potential problems that the dog could have. Taking the list into consideration, Cooper formed a rough idea about the problem his dog could have. Soon, he consulted another vet who listened to Cooper’s suggestion while treating his dog. “We started the dog on the proper treatment, and she's made almost a full recovery now. Note that both of these diseases are very common. Babesiosis is the #1 tick-borne disease, and IMHA is a common complication of it, especially for this breed,” he added.

Take a look at the Twitter thread:

Here are the tweets where the pet dad shared the screenshots of his interactions with GPT-4.

These tweets show what the AI bot compiled while giving a "I am not a veterinarian..." disclaimer.

The pet dad also shared these tweets to conclude his thread:

Since being shared, the main tweet has been viewed over 9.6 million times and the numbers are only increasing. The post has also accumulated several comments from people.

Here’s how Twitter users reacted:

“What is your dog's name? I’m glad they are on the mend,” commented a Twitter user. “Impressive! Glad your dog is on the road to recovery. GPT helped diagnose what was wrong with my monstera plant a few weeks ago,” shared another. “Human doctor here and can’t wait for this to be integrated in daily practice. I have to look at long lists with results on a daily basis. AI is going to reduce human error,” posted a third. “This is cool but I just can’t get past handing over medical records to OpenAI with barely any privacy protections. Maybe fine for the dog but I couldn’t send over personal stuff,” argued a fourth. “This is completely amazing! I actually have been dealing with some medical things with my dog as well, and haven’t really gotten full answers from my veterinarian. I was thinking about maybe giving us a try, but I’m trying to understand what you used exactly,” wrote a fifth.
